Winery in Valladolid

Lagar del Duque (D.O. Cigales)

Welcome to Bodega Lagar del Duque, a winery in Valladolid province, close to the nearby town of Fuensaldaña. Lagar del Duque is a tribute to our hard-working family, who for five generations have worked tirelessly from dawn to dusk to care for their vineyards. A dream that began with the first hectare acquired in Fuensaldaña by our family, and that has continued under the guidance and wisdom of “Tío Carlitos”(uncle Carlitos) for more than 80 years.

Using sustainable cultivation methods that protect our family’s legacy, we continue to work with our old vines. This allows us to continue creating such quality wines. Wines that conquer the 5 senses. Wines that evoke memories, and wines that turn nostalgia into flavour, for pairing with the best toasts. Pure character of D.O. Cigales and Vinos de la Tierra de Castilla y León (Wines from Castilla y León)!

A winery with history

The dedication of the Duque García family

We have lost count of the number of years our family has been caring, almost obsessively, for our vineyards. A family that has seen 5 generations grow amongst the same vineyards and whose name we put on the wines we create.

A family history that began in 1890, with the purchase by our family of a first hectare on the slopes of Fuensaldaña. But it evolved and grew with the work and dedication originally of our great-grandfather Adrián, who passed on his expert touch to his son Nereo, and then later his grandson Fermín. Today, the legacy has passed to Alfonso and José Carlos, great-grandsons of Adrián.

The importance we give to our roots is so great that even “Tío Carlitos” (uncle Carlitos), who at more than 80 years old continues to put his soul into each variety, understanding every particular detail to make every wine just as special.

Our greatest treasure: Grapes from our vineyards in Fuensaldaña, Valladolid

The grapes that make up our wines come from old vines, deeply rooted in the surroundings of our winery in Fuensaldaña, cared for under the warmth that only a family can provide. Grapes in which the Tempranillo, Albillo, Verdejo and Garnacha varieties stand out, to give you such special, quality wines.

Our grapes are harvested by hand or by machine depending on the needs of the wine. Our grapes are always pampered to enhance the aroma of tradition and give them the most careful treatment, thus protecting their unique character marked by the large thermal fluctuations, droughts and frosts in the area. A grape that grows on soils with sand, limestone, clay and earth that rests on clay and loam.

Grapes whose vines are monitored and controlled one-by-one by Tío Carlitos, Alfonso and José Carlos are marked by strings of different colours to guide us exactly the moment for pruning, or  if they need any specific attention. By taking such care and effort  we harvest the best ingredients to fill your glasses with tradition, soul and sweet nostalgia.
